A son bord se trouvent \u00e9galement des composants fabriqu\u00e9s \u00e0 l\u2019Empa, et ce gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 un proc\u00e9d\u00e9 de brasage sp\u00e9cialement d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 pour l&#8217;occasion.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Vibrations, vide, rayonnement et variations extr\u00eames de temp\u00e9rature : Les instruments de mesure scientifiques pour les sondes spatiales doivent pouvoir r\u00e9sister \u00e0 tout cela pendant des ann\u00e9es tout en continuant \u00e0 fonctionner avec une pr\u00e9cision et une fiabilit\u00e9 maximales. Il n&#8217;est donc pas \u00e9tonnant que chaque composant doive r\u00e9pondre aux exigences les plus \u00e9lev\u00e9es.<\/p>\n<p>Hans Rudolf Elsener, du laboratoire de technologie d&#8217;assemblage de l\u2019Empa, fournit depuis environ 25 ans, avec ses collaborateurs, diff\u00e9rents composants pour des sondes spatiales en collaboration avec l&#8217;Universit\u00e9 de Berne. Certaines missions de l&#8217;Agence spatiale europ\u00e9enne ont d\u00e9j\u00e0 embarqu\u00e9 ses composants. Prochaine destination : Jupiter.<\/p>\n<p>Le 13 avril, la mission de l&#8217;ESA \u00abJupiter Icy Moons Explorer\u00bb (\u00abJUICE\u00bb) a \u00e9t\u00e9 lanc\u00e9e. Elle doit \u00e9tudier la plus grande plan\u00e8te de notre syst\u00e8me solaire, Jupiter, et ses lunes glac\u00e9es Ganym\u00e8de, Callisto et Europe. Parmi les 11 instruments scientifiques \u00e0 bord de la sonde spatiale se trouve un spectrom\u00e8tre de masse d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 \u00e0 l&#8217;Universit\u00e9 de Berne. Le \u00abNeutral Ion Mass Spectrometer\u00bb mesure la composition chimique de la couche la plus externe de l&#8217;atmosph\u00e8re de Jupiter et de ses lunes. Au c\u0153ur de cet instrument de seulement 36 cm de long se trouve une pi\u00e8ce de l\u2019Empa.<\/p>\n<p>Pour les chercheurs de l&#8217;Universit\u00e9 de Berne, l&#8217;\u00e9quipe d&#8217;Elsener a fabriqu\u00e9 quelques composants pour l&#8217;instrument de mesure de haute pr\u00e9cision, dont le \u00abreflektron\u00bb. On peut se le repr\u00e9senter comme un miroir \u00e9lectrique &#8211; les ions qui arrivent sont frein\u00e9s par l&#8217;application d&#8217;un champ \u00e9lectrique et acc\u00e9l\u00e9r\u00e9s dans la direction oppos\u00e9e. Cela permet de r\u00e9aliser des mesures beaucoup plus pr\u00e9cises.<\/p>\n<p>Le Reflektron se compose de cylindres en c\u00e9ramique empil\u00e9s, entre lesquels sont ins\u00e9r\u00e9s des anneaux \u00e9troits en titane. Les faces int\u00e9rieures des cylindres en c\u00e9ramique sont rev\u00eatues en spirale d&#8217;une p\u00e2te d&#8217;oxyde m\u00e9tallique \u00e0 haute r\u00e9sistance contenant du verre. Ce rev\u00eatement robuste permet d&#8217;appliquer un champ \u00e9lectrique puissant qui n&#8217;utilise qu&#8217;une petite partie du peu de courant disponible \u00e0 bord de la sonde spatiale.<\/p>\n<p>Les diff\u00e9rents composants du reflet ont \u00e9t\u00e9 soud\u00e9s ensemble \u00e0 l\u2019Empa dans un four sp\u00e9cial sous vide pouss\u00e9. En effet, si de l&#8217;oxyg\u00e8ne \u00e9tait pr\u00e9sent dans le four, le titane s&#8217;oxyderait en une poudre blanche sous l&#8217;effet des temp\u00e9ratures \u00e9lev\u00e9es. Avant le brasage, les composants sont donc rev\u00eatus afin d&#8217;optimiser le processus de brasage.<\/p>\n<p>L&#8217;\u00e9quipe d&#8217;Elsener a d\u00e9j\u00e0 termin\u00e9 les composants de \u00abJUICE\u00bb en 2019.
