The CE mark is an administrative mark that can be attached by the manufacturer itself and is intended for the customs authority of the EU. It only indicates to the authorities that the respective product conforms to EU directives. Even though it is not directed at the end customer and does not serve as a proof of quality, the CE mark is often misunderstood as a type of test mark in practice.
For the proof of the overall safety of a product through the observance of safety standards, however, the voluntary testing and certification by independent institutes such as Electrosuisse is recommended, if not necessary.
For the import of products to Switzerland, the CE mark is not necessary. The proof of the overall safety of a product, however, is identical to the EU area.
